Corinne Almquist
was recently identified as an “up and coming leader” in the field of sustainable agriculture by Women’s Earth
Alliance (WEA) and was selected to participate in their fall delegation to India. The purpose of the delegation
was to build linkages with Indian women leading the way in sustainable agriculture development. Also serving in
the delegation was Selection Committee Member, Rucha Chitnis. Both Corinne and Rucha helped document the
experience on WEA’s blog.
Corinne was also featured in an article in the Christian Science Monitor
Miranda Hileman is working
in Lexington, Kentucky to create and sustain community and school-based gardens. Miranda, and her Mentor
Jim Embry, wrote about

2008
Angel Cruz writes from El
Salvador, “For me the Compton Mentor Fellowship hasn't truly ended yet. Shortly after the 2009 Fellows retreat in
July, I returned to El Salvador to continue building a community garden in Los Naranjos. I have also been working
with a similar garden process in another nearby community, as well as facilitating a long term planning process
within FUNDAHMER for their sustainable agriculture program. My plan is to return to the US at the end of December,
with the hopes of starting the Ecology Action Biointensive Internship Program in April.” Angel was recently featured
in an article about young activists, in
Western North Carolina Magazine
Michael Easton is continuing
his work to develop and manufacture an efficient wind turbine for household use. Michael’s efforts were
featured in an article in Southwest Airlines’ in-flight magazine, Spirit.
Elizabeth Murphy appeared on the Non-Sequiter Show - click here -
to discuss tidal power. Libby is currently working as Project Manager for Hudson Valley Grass Energy and writes,
“We’ve created the first mobile biomass pelleting unit and will be taking it around to farms throughout the
Hudson Valley in order to produce local, renewable, carbon-neutral heating fuel! Beyond renewable energy,
our goal is to conserve the valley as a farming region by putting profits directly into the farmer's hands.”
In other news, Libby is making her first recording with her folk band!
2007
Kartikeya Singh recently
published an article, A Journey to the Edge, in Sanctuary Asia.
In the August, 2009 edition of the journal Kartikeya chronicles his trip to Antarctica.
