Project Summary
Mara will work with GrowNYC (prev. the Council on the Environment of NYC) to rebuild a database of community and school gardens, which includes updating the interactive map at http://www.oasisnyc.net/. She will use the data to conduct a series of analyses on the city’s gardens, including which can act as public compost locations, what types of food are grown, and which gardens are partnering with schools. She will also work with GrowNYC to help launch a wholesale farmers’ market with small projects. Both of these projects seek to encourage a sustainable, local, and equitable urban food system and to expand access to local produce.
