Project Summary
A rapidly industrializing country, India is on the verge of deciding not only its own future but also the ecological future of the planet. Currently there are 500 million people without access to electricity in India and how India chooses to provide them with power--whether through grid-fed coal power or decentralized renewable energy sources--has major implications for global climate change. Kartikeya will compile a report analyzing the barriers to successful implementation of the various decentralized renewable energy systems: solar, biogas, micro-hydro, biomass gasification, bio-diesel, etc.). Also, Kartikeya hopes to launch an Indian Youth Climate Network which will help Indian youth engage in international policies on climate change and take action at the national level as well. Kartikeya's mentor is Ms. Sunita Narain, director of the Center for Science & Environment, New Delhi.
